KW: Where is your favorite spot to skate?
WR: I love skating on any space that has really good flatground. I love the new skatepark my hometown build because you can go really fast and you never have to pick up your board. I also like spots that are difficult to skate, because then when you get something you are rewarded with a good feeling of satisfaction.

KW: What is your favorite type of obstacle for thrashing?
WR: I love it all. Mini ramps are starting to be a new favorite, even though I’m still learning basic maneuvers.

KW: How do you do switch impossibles?
WR: Because i cheat, and my foot doesn’t really wrap like a Templeton or Rieder impossible. Also because they’re harder regular.

KW: Where do you go to College and how many years do you have left?
WR: I go to school at UC San Diego. I just figured out I have only 3 more quarters left and then I will have my degree. I always thought I was going to have to do more than 4 years, maybe even 5 because I’ve mostly been spending my college career skating, but I may be able to finish in a clean 4 years. I’m super psyched to be finished so I can just spend more time traveling and skateboarding.

KW: Do you have special lady in your life besides your mom?
WR: My mom is definitely number one lady in my life, but I also have a little sister who is my hero and a girlfriend who is the best. Life is always great with special ladies keeping you grounded and happy!

KW: Where are you from and describe what it was like growing up there?
WR: I’m from a really small town in the Napa Valley called St. Helena. When I say small I mean like 6,000 people, which probably seems insane to most people. Growing up there was awesome, because you have a small space to conquer on a skateboard and you can walk or skate everywhere you need to go. Its also very safe so my parents didn’t have to act over-protective. After a while the smallness starts to make you feel a little claustrophobic, and you just want to get out because you feel bored and trapped. But its the best to go back and visit, because with a town so small you start to feel like you know everybody, so going home is like going to an oversized high school reunion or something.

KW: Who’s hot right now?
WR: SD locals are hot right now. I’m really feeling Luan De Oliviera, that dude’s my favorite new guy. Spencer Hamilton. All the tranny destroyers are awesome, because many of them are super well-rounded. Ryan Harris is killing it, Tom Remillard is on it. Jimmy Cao and Jamie Palmore, and the rest of the Sk8mafia am squad are pretty much going to be the best new generation of pros. Josh Anderson is going to be a great addition to the Organika crew, because he’s amazing! David Reyes is a hungry beast! Everyone in the video I’m making called the SHUFFL video are super hot right now! Watch out for it dropping early 2010. Ryan Harris, Paul Sewell, John Lupfer, David Cole, Austin Kanfoush, and Dave Abair.

KW: What’s next for Walker Ryan?
WR: Finish up the SHUFFL video, graduate college. We are going to do an Organika video soon too, which will be really cool and I’m going to try and film a whole part for that. Circa is doing a video too. Alpha wants to make a promo video, which we should start filming for soon. I want to try and get a project going in San Diego that implants small plaza-esque spots in public community parks. I think it would be so sick to get the city to build or allow building of small ledges and manny pads in all the already nice public parks so there is actually somewhere for skateboarders to skate in San Diego.

KW: How many times have you gone to Europe on your own dime just to visit friends and skate?
WR: I’ve gone a few times to different countries to just get out and do my own thing. Traveling is super fun and if you can round enough money for a cheap ticket there should be nothing stopping you from just going somewhere where you know people (or you don’t) and just wing it. It’ll always end up working out and being fun.

KW: Give us a good movie to check out.
WR: I just watched Forrest Gump which is an anytime classic. Christmas is coming, which means you HAVE to watch Its A Wonderful Life. That movies so happy it almost always makes me cry. I love the first two Godfather movies, I could watch those everyday.
